Description

Turn your 4Runner into a trail-first, race-inspired machine—without sacrificing daily comfort. The 74Weld Gen 2 Portal Axle Kit raises your axles (not just your chassis), delivering real under-body clearance, a 1.22:1 hub reduction (22%), and an approx. 3.88" lift from the axle centerline. Run 35–37" tires with far less strain on the driveline and keep near-OEM steering feel, CV angles, and ride quality.

Unlike conventional lifts that push geometry out of spec, portals keep your control arms and tie rods flatter at ride height. That’s why desert and Ultra4 racers trust 74Weld: you gain clearance where it matters—under diffs, arms, and steering—while multiplying torque at the hubs.

Why 74Weld portals on a 4Runner

  • True ground clearance: Raising the axle centerline protects the most vulnerable components on rocks, ruts, and ledges.

  • 22% torque multiplication at the hub: Offsets big tires, often reducing the need to regear axles and easing stress on the drivetrain.

  • Keep OEM manners: Retains factory-like CV and steering geometry for predictable on-road handling.

  • Massive strength where it counts: Billet 7075 knuckles with steel inserts and billet 6061 portal housings built for hard use.

  • Brake upgrade & ABS compatibility: Larger front calipers/rotors and a rear caliper with integrated parking brake, with factory ABS compatibility.

  • Wider, more stable track: +3.5" per side (≈ +7" overall) for improved stability and optimized scrub with stock suspension components.

  • Rear end made right: Converts the 4Runner’s rear semi-float to a full-float for superior load handling and durability.

Vehicle compatibility

  • Toyota 4Runner 2003–2024 (4th Gen 2003–2009, 5th Gen 2010–2024)

Sway bar note (non-KDSS): The kit is not compatible with the factory front sway bar location on non-KDSS 4Runners. The sway bar must be removed or relocated (relocation solution recommended).

Wheel & tire guidance

  • 35–37" tires are commonly achievable with portals; final fitment depends on wheel specs, bumpers, alignment, and trimming.

  • Confirm caliper/rotor clearance with your chosen wheels. We’ll help you pick offsets that work with the +3.5" per side increase.

FAQs

Do I still need to regear?
Often no. The 22% hub reduction offsets the effective ratio change from larger tires, letting many owners run 35–37" without opening the diffs. Driving style, load, and tire size ultimately decide.

How is a portal lift different from a suspension lift?
Suspension lifts raise the body but keep axles at the same height, which can worsen CV and steering angles. Portals raise the axles themselves, giving real clearance under diffs/arms while keeping geometry near stock.

What about ABS and traction systems?
The kit is factory ABS compatible. Verify operation after install; recalibration/initialization steps may be recommended.

Will my parking brake still work?
Yes—the kit includes a rear caliper with an integrated parking brake.

Non-KDSS sway bar solutions?
The front sway bar must be removed or relocated on non-KDSS 4Runners. Ask us about relocation options that maintain on-road manners.
